Antoine PIERINI has voluntarily worked this piece in an ambiguous manner : to which period of time does it belong?
The classic and elegant shape of the object is enhanced by its handles and their contemporary lines. Marble imitation, cracks and light iridescence give the creation the aspect of an ancient object which, by the looks of its decoration, could be defined as a vase.
However, this sculpture of Antoine PIERINI is anything but functional and even less Antique.
Lengthwise, its belly is covered in writings which seem to scroll up like data on a screen. This impression is reinforced by the frieze of hashtags crowning the top of the belly, as a reinterpretation of the traditional friezes visible on Greek vases.
But, what do these writings mean ?
Playing with the codes of our « all-connected » society, Antoine PIERINI chose to go against the expected meaning of the words : « Culture », « Patrimoine (Heritage) », « Partage (Sharing) », « Transmission », « Philosophie (Philosophy) », « Démocratie (Democracy) », writing them in modern Greek.
In a world where quantity and speed of information seem to dominate, these words resonate as strong values, as real anchor points, fixed landmarks, opposed to the ephemeral nature of hashtags.
Hashtags which have become the symbol of a new job : influencer.

« Who are these influencers?
Philosophers, writers, journalists, artists, politicians, stars, athletes, or even bloggers ? Let’s take a moment to step back : are the real influencers not those who left a big mark in History for generations, centuries and even thousands of years? Notably across the seas rather than through screens? »
